Big changes happened during Camp El-O-Win’s 65th year at its current location. These changes continue Camp El-O-Win’s makeover! Several projects are already in the works and some long-range plans are being researched.
Program:
- Summer was kicked off with a Recruitment Carnival in May!
- A completed Girl Scout Gold Award Project enabled Camp El-O-Win to receive a “Land Acknowledgement”, verifying that El-O-Win now resides on the original territory and ancestral lands of the Nyyhmy (Western Mono, Monache) Nation.
- A generous grant from the Fig Garden Women’s Club provided camperships to 38 girls, helping them with camper fees.
Property Management:
- An ADA compliance porch and ramp were added to the Ladybug cabin in Arapaho.
- The road over the small culvert by the Orion Cabin was repaired.
- The floor of the dining hall and apron surrounding the entire building was repaired and resurfaced.
- Many campfire seating logs were replaced throughout camp.
- New Trading Post steps were built.
- Footings for a 12 x 10 pottery shed were poured for a future build.
- Cement footings and beams on the exterior of the Office, Infirmary and staff Shower were replaced.
Fund Development:
- 404 ducks swam down Dinkey Creek during the Annual Duck Race in July.
- We bought out Roger Rocka’s Second Space in December and hosted the play Little Women, A Christmas Card. What a hit!
- A Fall Carnival in Bakersfield delighted attendees with games, food, and a silent auction!
Projects in the works for El-O-Win’s future:
- Construct a 3 flush-toilet bathroom in Chippewa. In January, we launched a Finish the Biffy in a Jiffy campaign, selling bright pink patches.
- Install a fire-suppression system in the kitchen.
- Build a bathroom in main camp for campers.
- Make the Pueblo Unit and Shoshone Units “camp-able”.
- Attract new campers.
- And of course, raise the funds to keep the non-profit wheels in motion and accomplish these projects (a project in itself).
It is your heart and generosity that propel Camp El-O-Win forward – onto the next adventure, the next year, the next step in bringing camp to as many campers as possible. Sending a girl to camp for three days or a week is a one-of-a-kind gift! Renting a cabin, tent, or teepee for a few days with your family or friends in the mountains creates unbelievable magic. El-O-Win welcomes all who enter her gate with a happy spirit.
We invite you to support The Friends of Camp El-O-Win with a monetary gift. We are grateful for donations of all sizes. Donations can be made by check, credit card, cash or PayPal at www.campelowin.org.
Thank you for your friendship and your love of El-O-Win!
